A team from the Clinical Research Network (CRN) Wessex put on their walking boots and waterproofs and took part in ‘Walk for Dementia’ last weekend.

The walk in Warsash, Hampshire, was organised by local charity Dementia Support Hampshire & IOW who provide support for people living with dementia and their families.

The annual walk which coincides with World Alzheimer’s Month which takes place every September, helps raise funds to support people in the local community, as well as providing the opportunity to walk in memory of a loved one.

The CRN Wessex team wore their ‘Join Dementia Research’ t-shirts and took the opportunity to talk to fellow walkers and their families about taking part in dementia research. Two team members, including Helen Sloan, Public Contributor for CRN Wessex, also manned a stand and chatted with walkers as they arrived.

The team have jointly raised over £900 to date online, with more to follow, all of which will support the work of Dementia Support Hampshire and IOW.

Amanda Pattie, Study Support Manager & Join Dementia Research Lead for CRN Wessex comments: “It was great to be involved and have so much interest in the event. So many people are affected by dementia so it was good to show our support as well as provide information about how local people can get involved with research. A big thank you to the organisers for letting us join the event and share information about the Join Dementia Research service. Finally, a huge well done to the team for their support with the stand, and to those who walked despite the torrential rain, thunder, and lightning!”
