National Infection lead role for CRN Greater Manchester Deputy Clinical Director

Greater Manchester infectious diseases consultant Dr Andy Ustianowski has been appointed as the joint NIHR CRN National Specialty Lead for Infection. 

Dr Ustianowski, who is also Deputy Clinical Director for the NIHR Clinical Research Network Greater Manchester and Principal Clinical Research Lead for North Manchester General Hospital, took up his new role on 1 May 2020. 

He and Professor William Hope, the Director for the Centre of Excellence in Infectious Diseases Research at the University of Liverpool, will contribute to national strategies and initiatives and encourage colleagues in their field to build on clinical and research expertise.

Dr Ustianowski is currently UK Chief Investigator for three Covid-19 treatment trials, and Principal Investigator for five Covid-19 research studies open at North Manchester (all designated as national urgent public health priority studies).

He also leads research into HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C and is an honorary senior lecturer at The University of Manchester.
