A doctor who has spent his career caring for the elderly has been recognised by the Royal College of Physicians at their annual Excellence in Patient Care Awards.
Dr Amit Arora, Consultant in Elderly Care at University Hospitals of North Midlands, won in the ‘Contribution to the Profession’ category, which celebrates members who have demonstrated excellence in their professional life.
Dr Arora, who is the Specialty Lead for Ageing at the NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) West Midlands and has worked tirelessly to promote research into the care of older people, says: ‘“It’s absolutely brilliant to win this award; just to be nominated is an honour. But my work is largely credit to the organisations I work with, including CRN West Midlands. I would not be where I am now without them. My huge thanks go to them for their support over the years.”
The Excellence in Patient Care Awards aim to recognise, celebrate and promote the work that physicians do to improve patient care through education, policy, clinical practice and research.
Professor Jeremy Kirk, Clinical Director at NIHR CRN West Midlands says: ‘We are absolutely thrilled for Dr Arora that he has received this recognition, a fitting testament to his hard work and enthusiasm over the years.
‘The engagement of NHS physicians in research is essential for sustaining clinical success, particularly given the many competing demands on clinician time and resources.’
