A new tree has been planted at Tickhill Road Hospital to thank and support those who have been, and are currently involved in health and care research.

The ‘Research Tree’ was unveiled on May 28th 2022, and had cards attached that mentioned medical areas that local community members and research participants wished for research to be developed in.

The event was open to the public, and featured lawn games and plenty of goodie bags, leaflets, merchandise and most importantly, the chance to put your name down to be involved in research in the future.

Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire and Research Ready Community Champion Akeela Mohammed helped cut the ribbon to officially unveil the tree and also took the opportunity to give thanks and emphasise the importance of health and care research.

"I’d like to say thank you on behalf of the South Yorkshire Lieutenancy and the Lord Lieutenant for inviting me here. We have a beautiful tree here and we’re so happy to be a part of this. I’m so happy to be a part of the NIHR and all the research we’ve been doing in Doncaster."

"We hope that people will see this plaque and get involved in research, we want to make sure everyone knows about it, and we’re going to shout about it!"

Heather Rice, Assistant Director of Research at Grounded Research RDaSH NHS Foundation Trust, also said: “It was marvellous to see so many people come to support research. The research tree in the Flourish Garden in Doncaster is a great way to thank everyone involved in research – especially the people whose participation in studies helped deliver the life-saving vaccines during the pandemic so quickly and so effectively.

“We at Grounded Research are very proud of the role we played in that, and we hope that as the tree grows so will we, playing our part in finding new solutions to health problems into the future.”

The tree can be found in the Sunken Gardens outside Flourish Cafe at St Catherine's House, Tickhill Road Hospital, Doncaster.
