The Research and Innovation (R&I) team at Portsmouth Hospitals University (PHU) NHS Trust are celebrating being one of ten finalists for this year’s Nursing Time Awards.

The team were shortlisted for the NIHR-sponsored Clinical Research Nursing award, which was created to recognise the key contribution of the clinical research nursing workforce.

On reaching this year’s final, PHU Lead Research Nurses Sharon McGready and Johanna Mouland, said:

“We are absolutely delighted the team were shortlisted, this is testament to all their flexibility, hard work, and adaptability to ensure our patients have access to clinical research.

“This has been a real team effort and could not have happened without the support of our colleagues across the Trust.

“2020 has been a difficult time for all in healthcare. What has been inspiring to see is the team’s ability to adapt to change, embrace new technologies and facilitate collaborations within the Trust; empowering us all to work as one team.

“We may not have won on the night, but what we have all achieved is amazing and we should be very proud of the achievement.”

This year marked the 30th anniversary of the Nursing Times Awards, as well as the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife.

Although a face-to-face event was not possible, the ceremony was live-streamed and over 1,000 people joined.

Dr Sharon Barrett, NIHR Clinical Research Network Associate Director of Nursing and lead judge, said:

“Despite the challenging year, it was so important to find time to celebrate clinical research nurses and midwives. It is important to recognise all the entries for this category.

"The other judges and I were incredibly impressed with the many initiatives, training and collaborations described and we will go further to share some of these.”
