Professor Gwenllian Wynne-Jones appointed as Chief Nurse Research Lead for CRN West Midlands

Professor Gwenllian Wynne-Jones will join the Clinical Research Network West Midlands (CRN WM) as its first ever Chief Nurse Research Lead early next month.
Professor Wynne-Jones, who is Director of Research for the School of Nursing at Keele University, said improving the engagement of healthcare staff would be one of her priorities in the role.
She said: ‘The importance of partnerships has always been key to my work, and I am excited to have the opportunity to apply these principles to the whole West Midlands region, with the aim of improving the engagement of nurses, midwives and allied health professionals in research at all levels.”
The Network’s Chief Operating Officer Carly Craddock said: “We are delighted to welcome Gwen to the team and look forward to working with her to broaden and strengthen regional collaborations.”
Professor Wynne-Jones’ immediate priority is to develop a region-wide strategy for Nursing Research, working with senior nurse leaders in primary and secondary care. She will also work with the NIHR Nursing and Midwifery office to support the delivery of a CRN-wide Nursing and Midwifery Plan and provide the vital link between the local, geographically-based networks (LCRNs) and the national office.
The position is a secondment from the University for two days a week.
About Professor Wynne-Jones
Gwenllian is the Director of Research for the School of Nursing and Midwifery and is Professor of Nursing, in the Keele School of Medicine.
She trained as a nurse at the University of Southampton (2000) and completed her BSc (Hons) in Nursing Studies at the University of Stirling (2002). Gwen's PhD was conducted at the Arthritis Research UK Epidemiology Centre at the University of Manchester where her research focussed on the epidemiology of pain (2005).
She joined the Centre for Epidemiology Versus Arthritis and Centre for Primary Care Versus Arthritis at Keele University in 2005 as a Research Associate.
