Vacancy for NIHR Specialty Research Leads
The National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network:North West Coast (CRN:NWC) is one of 15 Local Clinical Research Networks in England. The role of CRN:NWC is to establish and maintain an excellent NHS infrastructure for clinical research. This infrastructure includes clinical research support staff and sessional support for clinical investigators of all professions; funding for other NHS support costs; research management; governance systems and staff.
Specialty Research Lead roles are key leadership roles in the network helping to effectively deliver NIHR research for patients benefit. Individuals will agree to work in partnership with the NIHR CRN to drive forward the delivery of clinical research across the healthcare organisations in the NWC region.
CRN:NWC is seeking to fill the following Specialty Research Leads roles:
● Health services research (HSR) - 1.0 Programmed Activities (PA)
● Surgery - 1.0 PA
● Hepatology - 0.5 PA
● Injuries and Emergency Medicine - 0.5 PA
● Oral and Dental Health - 0.5 PA
● Social care - 1.0 PA
Specialty Research Leads will belong to a wider ‘community’ of research specialties and will be supported by a Clinical Lead responsible for this community. Clinical Leads will be supported by a Research Delivery Manager (RDM) and Research Facilitator (RF) from CRN:NWC to support them in delivery of their roles. Arrangements for time release will be discussed with the successful applicant. Use of Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) allocation is for discussion and agreement between the employing organisation and clinician appointed. Resources are provided to ensure the appointee is given the time by their employing organisation to support the delivery of clinical research across the region.
Application Process
The appointment process will be led by the CRN:NWC Clinical Director, Deputy Clinical Director and Chief Operating Officer. All clinicians (of any profession with the suitable skills and experience) working within the North West Coast region are encouraged to apply for these key roles.
Appointments will be made until 31st March 2023 in the first instance. All appointments will be subject to satisfactory performance with an annual performance review process. This may be extended further dependent on performance and contractual arrangements for future delivery of the CRN:NWC.
