Last year (2019/2020) 23,329 participants participated in National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) studies across the South West Peninsula (Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset).
The region supported 638 studies in over 30 specialty areas Every NHS Trust, 47% of General Practices and Livewell, (a Plymouth social Enterprise) in the region actively contributed to delivering health and social research to improve patient care.
NIHR annual research statistics are published each year and provide the most comprehensive set of data available on the state of clinical research in England. The newly released data from the National Institute for Research, Clinical Research Network – South West Peninsula (NIHR CRN SWP) has revealed how thousands of patients, healthy volunteers and medical professionals are working together to change the face of healthcare through research.
The latest data revealed today (Wednesday 1/7/2020) shows how in the financial year 2019/20 thousands of patients and healthy volunteers answered the call to ‘be part of research’ and work with researchers to gain vital insights to provide valuable knowledge to help people live healthier and better lives now and in the future.
Nationally a total of 732,176 participants took part in NIHR CRN supported studies in the 2019/20 financial year, taking the total number of participants recruited to NIHR CRN studies over the last 5 years to 3,599,944
